BA allows on board use of PEDs in ‘flight mode’
✈Following European Aviation Safety Agency new regulations and UK’s Civil Aviation Authority approval, British Airways as a first airline in Europe now allows on board portable electronic devices’ use. The device has to be set to ‘flight mode’ and the rule includes all flight stages – including take-off and landing. All major US carriers have applied the policy already as Federal Aviation Administration eased the regulations earlier than EASA.
While being a part of ‘customer first’ policy it could be named ‘Bring Your Own In-Flight Entertainment’. On short and medium haul flights, where no IFE is delivered, allowing to use own device gate-to-gate solves the problem of boredom with no extra cost to the airlines.
